Resistance.
It's there every time I try to take a picture.
In the early days, it was camera settings and every picture turning out crappy.
Once I mastered camera settings it was the 4am alarm clock to beat the sunrise. “I don't want to get up, do I really need that picture?”
When I learned how to get out of bed without waking up, Resistance shifted gears and took a new strategy.
Perfectionism.
No sunrise was good enough anymore.
So I embraced gritty, raw reality.
But I was afraid everyone would see it as second-rate photography.
Resistance became personal.
I second-guessed everything.
Until I realized Resistance is the way.
The blaring alarm, the awkward headshot session, the camera bag that's too heavy to carry.
These are the things that make you a photographer.
While everyone else is sleeping or shying away or staying home, you're embracing Resistance.
Resistance doesn't stand in the way,
Resistance is the way.
Blurb Magazine Review
I love finding special photo editions of LIFE on magazine racks.
After a really great photo session a few weeks ago, I decided to print a magazine of my own through Blurb (this is not an affiliate link).
The magazine is printed on high-quality, heavy paper and makes a great alternative to photo books.
I decided to go with two-page spreads the whole way through.
As you can see, it’s best to keep important parts of the photo away from the center.
Whatever service you decide to use, I encourage you to print your photos and free them from their digital prisons!
Your friend in photography,
Mat
PS - I’m finishing up an ebook gift for you // 100 Ideas of What to Photograph
Look for it in a few days.
