Do you recall a moment when your passion for photography was born?

Victor:

Not my real serious start, but an interesting and valued gift. When I was 15, visiting my Grandmother she gave me my very first camera, a "Rainbow HAWK-EYE No 2 Model C". It had a handle on top, clips to open it on the top and side, a twisting device on the side to advance the film, a shutter release that moves Up and Down (each time taking a picture), a frosted glass on top to view the image and a hole on the front of the camera (where a lens might be) but reveals only a spring inside. I still have this camera and it works! 20 years later I got my real start and I committed fully to my new hobby with a Contax RTS 35mm camera and a host of Zeiss lenses, then an Enlarger and all the darkroom paraphernalia, at first I did Black and white film, later (A mistake, I often thought) I started taking colour film and slide film. Then when digital came along, and got much better, I abandoned my film camera and all related gear. Now, I spend some time taking photos (I hope one could call them photos not pictures) and more time editing and filing them using any number of editing and cataloging software, I was sorry when Apple abandoned "Aperture". Encouragement has alway come along from various Photo seminars and people like our friend Mat C!

Did anybody encourage you in your passion?

Yes lots

Did you ever feel like this is what I want to do the rest of my life?

I am here and still doing it with great interest.

After falling head over heals with photography, was there a moment you went deeper and discovered a particular style or approach to photography?

Not really, I try everything, but mainly for sports clubs taking action shots and making collages for their interests.

I always liked taking photos of friends and the things we were doing. But probably my first road trip when I tired to mix in the exotic landscapes I was visiting along with the people I was sharing the trip with.

Do you recall a moment when your passion for photography was born?

Yes. I was 10 years at Niagara Falls with my family. We stopped at a viewing area overlooking the falls and this sudden desire to get a camera came over me. I was so excited I couldn't stop talking about it and the possibility of it all kept me awake at night!

Did anybody encourage you in your passion?

Yes, I always received lots of film and photo albums for Christmas and my birthday from my parents and grandparents.

Did you ever feel like this is what I want to do the rest of my life?

I knew from the moment I first wanted the camera that this is what I would do with my life. But to be honest, I was never any good at photography and gave up on learning it for many years. However, that passion for photography found me at key moments in my life and I eventually got on the job training which led to me starting my own photography business.

After falling head over heals with photography, was there a moment you went deeper and discovered a particular style or approach to photography?

Yes, I'll never forget being at a used book sale and picking up a volume on photojournalism. Every page was filled with lines from photojournalists that described my inner nature - a love of spontaneous raw moments, human nature, exploration, chaos, beauty. I realized who I was as a photographer.
